Distributed execution works only when accountability for completeness, exceptions, changes, evidence, and failure is explicit at every responsibility seam.
The field pattern
The provider runs the platform. Security defines the standard. Engineering configures the service. Compliance collects the evidence. Procurement owns the contract. When the control fails, each team can accurately explain its part and nobody can identify who owned the whole outcome.
Why it matters
Ownership Fog creates gaps without requiring anyone to neglect an assigned task. The failure lives between tasks: population reconciliation, exception disposition, configuration assurance, service changes, or evidence completeness.
Clear ownership does not mean one person performs everything. It means each activity and seam has a performer, an accountable decision owner, a source of truth, escalation conditions, and evidence that shows the handoff completed.
Questions that expose the Wack
- Who is accountable for the control outcome when every assigned task is complete but the result is still wrong?
- Who decides whether a failure is accepted, remediated, escalated, or retested?
- Which provider activities depend on customer configuration or monitoring?
- What change at one seam requires the other owners to revisit their responsibilities?
